Mary is a 39yr old lady living in Kangemi slums on the outskirts of Nairobi with her 7 children. She had a severely narrowed mitral valve with high pressures in her lungs. Due to this a second valve on her right side was leaking. Mary was severely short of breath and without surgery she had 2-3 years to live. Mary’s surgery was successful, she recovered well and is now at home with her family.
